 Two Day Itinerary Hampi

Hampi can be visited in two day comfortably. Hampi is divided in two parts by Tungabhadra River, one part is heritage side (monuments, ruins and temple) and other side is Anegundi village which was also known as Kiskindha (Kingdom of Sugriv) in Treta-Yug. By road distance between these two is almost 40kms. So we need to make a decision which part you want to visit on Day 1. You can swap Day 1 and Day2 based on your stay. If you use ferry to cross the river then it is a lot shorter. You will get ferry from the Anegundi village to Hampi heritage side. You can also take your motorcycle on the ferry with a nominal change of Rs. 40 or something. 


Day 1 Itinerary

Try to visit in the given order or make a plan before hand. 

You will need entry tickets for Vittala Temple and Zenana enclouser(lotus palace and Elephant stable). Just need to book one ticket for all the place where entry is required, it is like a day pass. You can book it from the below link.

Most the places opens at 6:00 am and closes on 6:00 pm except Virupaksha Temple which closes 7 PM and open 24 hrs on Sunday.

1.Vittala Temple 

Known for its iconic Stone Chariot, this temple complex is a masterpiece of Vijayanagara architecture. It boasts intricately carved pillars, musical pillars, and stunning sculptures. 

Requires at least two hours to visit. You have to walk a little or wait in the queue to take the ticket for electric car.

2. Queen’s Bath

It features an ornate rectangular pool surrounded by arched corridors and domed ceilings. You can take good photographs here of your partner.

3. Mahaanavami Dibba and Octagonal Bath

Mahaanavami Dibba served as a ceremonial platform for the royal family during grand celebrations, while the Octagonal Bath was a royal bathing complex. Both showcase intricate carvings and architectural finesse, offering insights into the Vijayanagara Empire's grandeur.

4. Lotus Palace and Elephant Stables 

Lotus Place features delicate lotus-shaped arches and intricate carvings, serving as a royal pleasure pavilion or summer palace. 

Elephant Stables are an impressive set of domed chambers. These structures were once used to house the royal elephants of the Vijayanagara Empire.

5. Lakshmi Narasimha temple and Saasivekaalu Ganesha

The Lakshmi Narasimha Temple is a prominent Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Narasimha, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. The temple's main idol depicts Narasimha seated with the Goddess Lakshmi on his lap. It is notable for its massive monolithic statue of Lakshmi Narasimha, which originally had a smaller figure of Lakshmi sitting on his left lap, though it's now broken. 

Saasivekaalu Ganesha is a monolithic statue of Lord Ganesha. Carved out of a single granite boulder, the statue is notable for its large size and intricate carvings.

6. Virupaksha Temple and Monolithic Nandi

The Virupaksha Temple is a historic Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed to be one of the oldest functioning temples in India, with origins dating back to the 7th century. The temple complex is known for its impressive architecture, towering gopuram (entrance tower).

The Monolithic Nandi is a colossal statue of Nandi, the sacred bull and vehicle of Lord Shiva, situated near the entrance of the Virupaksha Temple in Hampi. Carved out of a single granite boulder, the statue is an impressive example of ancient Indian sculpture and craftsmanship.

7. Sunset at Matunga Hill

Sunset at Matunga Hill in Hampi offers a breathtaking spectacle, with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape bathed in golden hues. Making it a good place for photographers. It is easy trek which will take around 30 mins to 1 hour. Make sure to start the trek little bit early so that you don't miss the sunset. Sunset time is around 6:30 pm, so it is  will suggest to start the trek around 5:00 pm. There is a shiva temple at the top. Will take around 2 hours in total to visit this place.




Day 2 Itinerary:

Anegundi Village, Anjeyadri Hill and Sanapur Lake

1. Ancient Shri Chintamani Devalaya

Chintamani Temple is Lord Shiva Temple. This is also the place where Lord Ram met Sugreeva for the first time to seek help. There is also a cave there where they  build a strategy to kill to Baali. Then there is spot nearby from where Lord Ram aimed his arrow to kill Balli. A foot mark can be seen there as well.

2. Navabrindavana

Navabrindavana comprises nine samadhis (tombs) dedicated to prominent saints and scholars of the Madhwa tradition, including Sri Vyasaraja Tirtha and Sri Raghavendra Tirtha. These samadhis are believed to house the mortal remains of these revered saints. You have to take ferry to reach there. Can take 45mins-1 hour to visit this place.

3. Shri Durgamma Devi Ammanavara Temple

The temple complex features a sanctum dedicated to Goddess Durga, along with other smaller shrines. 

4. Anegundi Fort

It served as a strategic stronghold for the empire, offering protection and defense against invading forces. The fort is characterized by its massive stone walls, watchtowers, and bastions, which stand as a testament to its military importance.

5. Shri Mahalakshmi Devi Temple and Pampa Sarovar

Shri Mahalakshmi Devi Temple, situated near Pampa Sarovar. In Hindu mythology Pampa Sarovar is regarded as the place where Pampa, a form of Shiva's consort Parvati, performed penance to show her devotion to Shiva.Also this place is said be be place where shri ram, while his journey through forest, met with shabri

6. Coracle ride at Sanapur Lake

Sanapur Lake offers visitors the unique experience of a coracle ride. These traditional round boats, made of woven bamboo and coated with tar, provide a serene and memorable way to explore the tranquil waters of Sanapur Lake. As you glide across the lake's surface, you can admire the picturesque surroundings, including the rocky landscape and lush greenery. Ride can can be from Rs 250-500  per person depending upon the crowd.One can also take bath at near by river bank. Beware of crocodile while bathing.  

7. Sunset at Anjeyadri Hill

Anjeyadri Hill, also known as Anjaneya Hill. It is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The hill is adorned with temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman atop the hill. In this temple, there is a floating rock in water which is believed to be the rock which was used to build Ram Setu. There are 575 steps to reach the top of the hill and temple. This place is very peaceful and quite a place to enjoy sunset and the amazing view of Hampi from top.
